e-Career Awards launched
Few government web sites use the employment section to full advantage in attracting applicants. The e-Career Awards have been established to promote career information excellence on organisations’ web sites.
"We know that applicants want to know about future career and development opportunities, how they can contribute to making a difference and what an agency’s reputation is for work/life balance, yet few agencies make this information available on their web sites," says Dr Ann Villiers, specialist in government recruitment management.
"These awards will identify who is using their web sites well to provide career and job information that is clear, easy to find, and comprehensive.
The awards focus on government web sites in the Commonwealth and ACT Governments. Five criteria will be used to assess web sites, examining whether a career section exists, how comprehensive it is, how useful job information is and how clear and accessible the material is. Web sites will be assessed as Gold, Silver and Bronze in three categories:
- Commonwealth departments
- Commonwealth agencies
- ACT Government departments
Special categories of Awards are:
- Excellence in information for applicants
- Excellence in career path information
Results will be announced in early November 2008, along with an awards report based on case studies of Gold web sites.
